From “Old School” director Todd Phillips comes a comedy about a bachelor party gone very, very wrong. Two days before his wedding, Doug (JUSTIN BARTHA) drives to Las Vegas with his best buddies Phil and Stu (BRADLEY COOPER and ED HELMS) and his future brother-in-law Alan (ZACH GALIFIANAKIS), for a blow-out bachelor party they vow they’ll never forget. But when the three groomsmen wake up the next morning with pounding headaches, they can’t remember a thing. Their luxury hotel suite is beyond trashed and the groom is nowhere to be found. With no clue about what happened and little time to spare, the trio must attempt to retrace their bad decisions from the night before in order to figure out where things went wrong in the hopes of finding Doug and getting him back to L.A. in time for his wedding. But the more they begin to uncover, the more they realize just how much trouble they’re really in.
The Hangover was one of the funniest movies, if not the funniest movie of 2009. There is never a dull moment, even before the guys get to Las Vegas the script is packed with comedy. Not only that but the situations that the guys get themselves into aren’t far fetched (the tiger, maybe, but aside from this) everything is completely believable while still being able to be incredibly shocking. But screenwriters, Jon Lucas and Scott Moore seem to be naturally good at that – watch their film, Four Christmases.
What really makes the script shine though is the cast. Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, and Justin Bartha are comedy gold. This is noticeably the best casting that I have seen in a comedy in quite some time. They not only brought their characters to life but brought such originality to them that no one else could have done and the chemistry amongst these guys makes what unfold all the more hilarious. If you want to laugh, put this film in. You don’t have to be over 21 or someone who drinks to find this film to be funny. In fact, it might seem even more hilarious if you’re not. Mike Tyson, Mike Epps, Heather Graham, and others appear in the film and bring lots of laughs. As for how racy the film actually gets…though there is nudity in the film, the raunchiest part comes in the end credits. Other than that, this is something for everyone (hmm, 16+) to watch and enjoy.
Though, if you already own The Hangover on Blu-ray, there is no reason to get the Extreme Edition unless you are dying for the 28 page booklet. If you own the DVD and plan on getting the Blu-ray edition, feel free to pick up this extreme edition for a few extra bucks.
Bonus Features:
28 Page Book – This little book is the “Best Little Chapel: The Unseen Wedding Album” which has photos from the infamous wedding night aka hangover night. It’s not as raunchy as I expected, so that’s safe.
Soundtrack Sampler – The soundtrack sampler incudes five songs, one of which is the theme for the film. Based on the sampler, I’d recommend getting the the full soundtrack and hopefully the soundtrack for The Hangover 2 will be just as good.
