Earlier this week, I headed over to the Paley Center for 3 nights in a row to catch panels and screenings of a few new shows airing this fall.
The two nights that I did not attend were for NBC and CBS. I’ve had a handful of the NBC Pilots since this past August…and I was pleasantly surprised by Chase, loved The Event and Outsourced, and I thought that Undercovers and Outlaw were pretty entertaining as well. I was interested in The Cape but based on the promos…it unfortunately looks quite corny. I’ll watch the Pilot when it airs and go from there. I have yet to watch the rest of NBC’s new shows.
As for CBS, I wasn’t interested in Mike & Molly until I both saw the Pilot (which was hilarious) and was an audience member at a live taping (this episode was even more hilarious). So I will definitely be watching this show this fall. While the Shit My Dad Says twitter feed is entertaining, I’m not interested in the sitcom. The only reasons I have to be interested in Hawaii 5-0 are Alex O’Loughlin and Daniel Dae Kim. So, I’ll check out the Pilot and go from there. The Defenders looks like it will be a great show, but there’s no room for it on my schedule. Lastly, I loved Blue Bloods and have been watching the Pilot over and over again all summer.
As for the Paley Previews…
The first night I attended was for Fox. From left to right, members of the creative team & cast of both Raising Hope and Lone Star appeared for a panel before the Pilots were screened. Raising Hope is my favorite new show on Fox this season, hands down. If you don’t watch this show, you are missing out. Lone Star has potential to be good…I just don’t see myself tuning in week to week since my TV schedule is so full. This is a show that I would much rather enjoy watching on DVD, marathon style next summer. Running Wilde was also screened but was painful to watch. It just wasn’t funny. I won’t be tuning in.
As for the ABC panels & screenings, I’ve seen the Pilot for Better With You twice now and while I feel the same way about it as the first time…I wan this show to make it. It has a lot of potential, so hopefully people tune in and the writers go above and beyond in each future episode. I do not watch The Middle on a regular basis, but it always makes me laugh when I do watch, so I can definitely understand why people find this show entertaining. The first few minutes of No Ordinary Family seems a bit corny but after that, the episode really takes off. I am so excited to see what’s next for this show. But I am actually most excited for My Generation. I knew that I would enjoy My Generation, but I did not know that I would fall so hard for this show. If I had to choose one show on ABC to recommend, it would be My Generation. My Generation is a must watch. This is compelling television right here. I love it and I am itching for more.
Not screened, but I do want to mention that I will be watching the Pilots of
Body of Proof, The Whole Truth, and Detroit 1-8-7 and go from there. But there are only so many crime dramas that I can take, so we’ll see what makes it on my schedule permanently soon enough.
The last night was dedicated to The CW. Photo coming soon. The second episodes of Hellcats and Nikita were screened and both were very informative and engaging. I love the direction that both shows are going and believe that I will be watching both shows all season long. While the panels for previous nights were full of laughs, the panel for these shows was more technical…though there was only one cast member on the panel, which was an all male panel. So it was a little dry on the entertainment front but it was very informative, which I loved. I enjoyed all of the panels over the 3 nights, which were very intimate, the screenings, which I loved, and look forward to attending more Paley Center Events in the future.
