Ever want to see what a fugitive does while he’s on the run and the police manhunt to bring him down? A&E presents just that in the new original one hour docu-drama series, Fugitive Chronicles.
At the heart of each gripping real-life manhunt will be the cinematic reconstruction of the exhaustive efforts that take place, often in very dangerous conditions, to find and bring a fugitive to justice. Told from the perspective of the hunter and the hunted, these dramatic true-life stories are told through exclusive interviews with law enforcement officials closest to the case and the fugitive’s story based on real interrogation tapes, court transcripts and news footage. Officials will share exactly when they learned of the fugitive’s flight, what their first course of action was and how they went about executing their heart-pounding takedown.
In the Pilot episode, Danny Ray Horning is the fugitive viewers will follow. Convicted of 4 counts of armed robbery and kidnapping, Danny escaped prison after 6 months for 2 months and what an interesting 2 months this was. Danny survived in the wilderness for weeks before breaking into the local Texas homes for food and weapons. He held hostages, attempted to kidnap an entire family for ransom, and his case was so well known (a reason you will learn when you watch) that he became a local celebrity. Though finally after over a 400 policeman search, Danny was captured and what a wild ride it was to watch! Fugitive Chronicles is an entertaining and quite intriguing series that is definitely worth the watch with the whole family.
There are good actors who were hired for the re-enactments, which are actually quite thrilling at times. The interviews held with those attached to each case really provide an eye opening and thought provoking look into not only the case but their role as law enforcement and then how they feel and react just as people. Overall, the show is not as gritty as other A&E shows, but it is still good television. Though the choices that the fugitives have made may be frightening, you’ll come away having learned quite a bit and possibly re-evaluating how much you really think about your safety. So sit down and watch this with the whole family each week, you won’t be disappointed.
Fugitive Chronicles premieres April 1, 2010 at 10/9c on A&E.
