DVD Review: The Jacksons – A Family Dynasty

This March, A&E Home Entertainment gives home viewers an “all-access pass” into the lives of America’s most news worthy family with The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty.

Straight from the tabloids to the television, this intimate docu-series — seen by over 4.2MM viewers on its debut night — chronicles the turbulent personal and professional lives of the Jackson brothers as they reunite in the aftermath of the passing of their beloved brother, Michael. This is the opportunity to know the Jacksons like never before with this six-hour glimpse into the “First Family of American Music.” The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty is an unprecedented chronicle of the brothers’ relationships with each other, their parents and their children, while illustrating the difficult-to-balance demands of their professional commitments and celebrity.

Release Date: March 30, 2010
Running Time: 4 hours, 42 minutes

The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty is a good collection for major Jackson 5 fans but for the rest of us is quite a waste of time. The brothers all have similar goals in mind but go after everything in their own way. Therefore…nothing that the brothers want to accomplish gets accomplished. It’s almost hard to watch because these guys are trying to make music as The Jackson 5, but the main star is not there, so it’s ultimately a waste of time…especially since the music they came up with was not hit music…far from it.

They can be proud of being Michael Jackson’s brother but they will never match the success of him, so why try? This show is hilarious and not in a good way. It’s so bad that you can’t help but laugh. It’s bad because the brothers, mainly Jermaine try to be perceived a certain way in front of the cameras instead of just relaxing and living life as if the cameras were not there. It’s not scripted but it is all very calculated. Quite irritating…Jermaine is such a diva and seemed to be more over the top than any of the other brothers. It’s all really just so pitiful to see. This series barely gives any insight into the many fascinating places that the series could have gone. One thing is for sure, the Jacksons may have been the stars of their day, but that day is over, the spark has faded.
