Sci fi fans, I want to introduce you to Connor Fox who you can watch in the upcoming Syfy TV movie, Mothman – one of the many other places you will soon be able to see him on both the big and small screen.
McDreamy who? Oh wait..where was I…
This actor doesn’t stop at working in front of the camera. He is multi talented with acting, writing, and producing credits! In the interview below, Connor talks quite a bit about Mothman, as well as the 2 television Pilots he is attached to, 2 screenplays he has written, his The Twilight Zone inspired TV series, comics, and more. He is a star on the rise, so get to know him here and now before he graces the cover of People Magazine’s Most Beautiful/Inspiring/Powerful People.
How did you get involved in the film, Mothman?
I was actually filming another movie in New Mexico and my manager wanted me to audition for this project but I couldn’t since I was out of town. So I had my director put me on tape, I sent it over, and they liked it! I then did an iChat audition and ended up booking it through iChat. I didn’t have a reader or a laptop, so I bought a laptop for the audition and ended up bumping into a guy who used to be an agent for CAA to be my reader. Oddly enough, we became friends and have been talking ever since.
Sonny Lee & Patrick Walsh are best known for their comedic writing on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, so is there a comedic edge in the script for Mothman?
They did actually. Every now and then they allowed themselves to make fun of certain things in the script. It’s really good writing.
What drew you into the script the most?
The opening catches you right off the bat. It was something I had never seen done before. The premise is based off of a group of kids who accidentally kill one of their friends. I won’t tell you how it happens but it is all very original.
What was your favorite part about working with Jewel Staite?
It was great! She is very down to earth and she has been in the business for a long time so working with her everyday, you learn something new all of the time. It was very cool.
And working with the director, Sheldon Wilson?
He makes you feel comfortable. He really allows you the freedom to do improv and you can do anything with him.
What is your favorite element of sci fi?
I love the idea that you can do something that no one else can do in any other genre.
Would you be interested in doing more sci fi work?
For sure, sci fi is my favorite genre to work in so I would love that.
Well now if you could appear on any Syfy show, which show would it be?
It would be so nice if they remade Sliders and let me be Quinn Mallory. I would definitely love to appear on Stargate too.
Of all of the actors you have worked with, who have you learned from the most?
I worked with Jewel a lot, so I definitely learned a lot from her. I worked with Efren Ramirez (Napoleon Dynamite) on a film and he is one of those guys where you never know what he is going to say. He has such range. I learned from him that you can do anything and get away with it, as long as you believe it is true.
Can you tell me about your writing/producing projects, Sintax and The Chest?
Sintax is a family dark comedy that revolves around a rich family whose father dies and the siblings go about different ways to off each for his money. So that’s pretty fun. Then, The Chest is a feature film, a sci fi adventure comedy. I can’t talk too much about it but it is about a group of college kids who find a trunk full of magic and they decide to use it to be cool in college. I also have a series concept, based on my favorite sci fi series of all time, The Twilight Zone. Then, I have a comic book series, “The Last Planet” which is in early development.
What is the status of the two pilots you are attached to, Evan and Gareth (Comedy Central) and Have You Slept With Me? (Fox)?
Have You Slept With Me belongs to Fox but it is still being pitched around and Evan and Gareth hasn’t been green lit but it has been shot and post production is done…I believe Comedy Central is just looking for the right time for it.
Where would you say your passion lies most…acting, writing, producing?
Definitely acting. For me, writing is a great outlet where as an actor I find myself with a lot of downtime on set and when I am not working and waiting for the next film, so I need to get that creative energy out. The producing aspect, I’ve played with that a bit but definitely want to get more involved with that in the future.
Mothman airs April 24, 2010 only on Syfy.
