With the recent cancellation of Lifetime’s Rita Rocks, I wanted to catch up with Actress, Natalie Dreyfuss who did a wonderful job on the show as Rita’s daughter, Hallie. She recently shot an episode of Lie To Me and that’s not all. Keep reading for more!
What was your favorite episode of Rita Rocks in both Seasons 1 and 2?
I would have to say that I really like the episode where I break up with Kip. We had this really awesome break up scene where we had a huge fight and Rita kind of gets in the middle of it. We had some really fun scenes and I got to work with each character, specifically my dad, mom, and Kip. The scenes were written really well and that night that we taped the audience was so great. It was such a memorable episode.
What was your favorite character trait of your character, Hallie?
I would have to say her wit. She gets that from Rita. I loved when she would throw something back at her parents and they would say, “Don’t talk like that” but at the same time they knew that it came from them.
What are some things you learned while on set of Rita Rocks?
I think especially lately, auditioning for the Pilot season, I see so much of each person that I learned from on Rita Rocks come through me. It’s so funny. As I’m auditioning for things I’ll feel Nicole (Sullivan) pop out and I’ll think, “That’s so Nicole.” I took so many different tools from each person on set and it has really helped me so much.
Are you interested in working on a sitcom again?
I would love to work on a sitcom again! It was the best. I love the hours, shooting live, the energy on set, how quickly everything goes…I like to work quickly so I feel like doing a sitcom again would be amazing. I didn’t feel that way before. I actually did not want to do a sitcom, I wanted to do deep, meaningful, heart wrenching work and then when I started working on a sitcom I realized that it makes me more happy than anything I’ve ever done. So I would love to do it again.
Of all of the television shows that u have worked on, not including Rita Rocks, which would you love to go back to if you had the opportunity?
Life. Damian Lewis was so nice and so lovely to work with. When I did my first red carpet event, he was there and he was so sweet. He didn’t have to but he took my hand, walked me on the red carpet, took pictures with me, and told everyone to watch out for me. He didn’t have to do that, it was such a lovely gesture. I’d love to work with him again and say thank you for that and learn more from him.
Can you tell us about your experience shooting National Treasurer Book of Secrets and He’s Just Not That Into You?
I was very excited to shoot National Treasurer Book of Secrets with Nicolas Cage. I had been a fan forever, so that was fun to meet him. I was also able to meet Diane Kruger and Jon Voight. I had a quick one day shoot. My original line was just, “What a bitch” and then it was changed to, “What a witch” and then they changed it back, so we went back and forth with that a bunch of times. It was quite funny. In He’s Just Not That Into You, I was the girl who was crying because she had just got broken up with. So I cried for hours and they asked, “What would you be doing?” so I said, “Eating chocolate cake.” So they gave me chocolate cake and I have never wanted to eat it since…I ate so much chocolate cake that day. (laughs)
What are your upcoming projects?
Right now I am working on Lie To Me. I have a guest spot. It’s a very juicy role! I am also busy auditioning for roles as it is Pilot season.
Are you interested in writing, producing, or directing?
I want to be very well trained in something beforehand, so if I were to start doing any of those, I would definitely want to take a lot of classes to hone in the skills. With acting, I took a lot of classes before I started auditioning and working professionally so that is the way that I would take on any of those challenges.
Will you be doing anymore work with PETA?
Possibly. I had a really great time with the Save the Seals campaign. I know we made a huge difference which made a whole lot to me. I also worked with the No H8 Campaign. Whatever I can do to help the issued that I believe in, I am there.
What do you have planned for your birthday (February 25)?
I’m having a party! I don’t usually do a lot so I’m just going to do it…have everybody come over and we’re going to have a great time!
Watch Natalie Dreyfuss guest star on Lie To Me later this year.
