You’ve seen Canadian Actress, Brandy Kopp in The Butterfly Effect, Supernatural, and The 4400 among many other films and television shows and today Brandy can be seen in the upcoming films, The Riot and Goblin. After reading the premises of these films, I can tell you that you don’t want to miss them. So check out what Brandy had to say recently about her upcoming projects and more.
Starting with the upcoming feature film ‘The Riot’ in the film, the United States has found itself in another great depression but the film goes the extra step in creating chaos when it comes right down to survival and humanity. So how relatable is the film would you say to real life?
It’s quite relatable, that’s what I loved the most about the film. It’s quite realistic and dives into human nature and the effect thousands of people fighting whether they want to or not. It shows what can happen with the natural animalistic side of human nature. When I read it, I actually could see it as happening.
Can you tell me about your character, Victoria and her relationship with Andrew before, during, and after the riot?
Before they are very much in love. During the riot, he is stuck at the office and there is a lot going on there while I’m at home with his room mate fighting off the riot. During the riot, we are very scared for each other and we don’t have a lot of contact with each other. Then at the end, there is regrouping and we really look at each other again and our relationship after the riot.
Do you feel that this film will cause political controversy or is it a fun thriller?
I don’t think that it will cause political controversy since it is not directed at anyone or any specific scenario that has happened. It might cause controversy when it comes to the violence. People might think, “Humans wouldn’t react that way,” so it might cause great discussion about human nature and how people would react to a similar situation.
How did you get involved with the project?
Last year, I was in Los Angeles and I received an email about the director who wanted me to read for the role. I was going out of town, so I read the script but after reading I knew I didn’t want to wait. So I threw myself on tape and the next day when I was in Canada, I got the call from the director telling me that I had the role if I wanted it. Then we had a meeting and it was all very exciting.
You are also in an upcoming film, Goblin. What is your favorite aspect of sci-fi?
I think sci fi is cool because it is so unrealistic and off the charts. The fans are so devoted as well. I never really watched it before growing up but since I’ve been in the industry and doing sci fi, I’ve watched some things and some of it is quite good. It takes you to this world that doesn’t exist and it’s great. A lot of shows try to be realistic and when it’s not, it makes you naturally pick it apart. With sci fi, you can’t do that, so it’s really fun to dive into that and just play.
Any sci fi shows you are currently watching?
I watch Sanctuary because one of my friends is in the show.
What was it like working with director, Jeffery Scott Lando?
He is fantastic. He was very professional, very kind, and very open to trying new things.
You have worked with some of Hollywood’s best including Ashton Kutcher and David Arquette. Of everyone you have worked with, who would you say has inspired you the most?
I would say Mary Tyler Moore. She was the biggest star that I ever worked with and I grew up watching her so it was really cool to get the chance to work with someone you watched your whole life. It was the most exciting feeling for more. On the first day of filming, at the time I had never been in a trailer before and I didn’t know if I could talk to her so I whispered to the makeup artist, “Can I say hi?” So I did and we had this nice conversation and she was so warm and open and kind. She gave me some pointers and she was really amazing to talk to.
How did you get into voice over work?
I called my agency for something and someone who worked in the voice over department happened to pick up. At the time they were searching for the new voice of Barbie and he suggested I go in for the audition. So I went and it came down to me and this other girl. I went in many times and I had never done it before. Enunciating every word and adding specific emotions to each word since people can’t see your face was challenging so since then I have taken some course to get better. They ended up giving me the part of Barbie’s best friend and I had so much fun.
