TV Review: Leverage “The Bottle Job”

Leverage returned last week with all new episodes and tomorrow night, viewers will be treated to an incredible all new episode, “The Bottle Job.”

The Leverage team runs a high-tech version of a classic con on a predatory loan shark in order to save McRory’s bar.

Cora: Calamari is really good.
Alec: Calamari?
Nate: I don’t actually want calamari. I want to go to bed.
Alec: Cool, you can. In a minute. Yall wanna help me?
Eliot: This is your mess.

Nate’s “niece,” Cora (Odessa Rae) has 2 hours to pay her late father’s debt or hand over her father’s pub on the day of the wake which leads to another job for the team. Things are going very well until when trying to cheat out the loan shark at the bar, Nate is forced to drink with him to continue the game…making this the most heartbreaking moment of the episode…seeing him drink again. It’s quite a low moment. You’ll shake your head expecting defeat though Nate gets the job done very well and then some.

After the team believes they saved the bar, Nate knew not to let the loan shark go, and quickly plans to stall the bad guys from leaving so the team can let them know to never come back. There’s a fun round of card playing where the loan shark digs himself in a hole…but even before that, viewers will laugh at Alec’s attempt as a weatherman and swoon over Eliot as he knocks out a couple of guards while Parker is working on opening the loan shark’s safe. I love that this case had to be solved within 2 hours.

I loved how easily it was for Tara to get so close to the loan shark and how well she worked with the team, considering how she wasn’t really following Nate’s lead last week. It’s always fun seeing what Eliot and Parker will do to get the job done and it’s especially fun to see Alec get flustered when he has to unexpectedly do something…with Tara around it seems we should be seeing a lot more of that. If you are looking for more back story on Tara, this is not the episode though we do get a Nate flashback that will hold you over for awhile for any kind of back story. Aside from the moment Nate drank alcohol, every bit of this episode was exciting to watch and will have you anticipating more from the team.
