How far will they go to achieve their ultimate dream? Experience the rivalry and romance of four teenage girls on their path to Olympic gold in the original ABC Family series that has fans and critics cheering all across the nation. “You’ll flip for…Make It Or Break It,” raves David Hinkley of the New York Daily News. Who will rank #1 at Nationals and what will it take to get there? Viewers will flip for this engaging series chronicling the triumphs and heartbreaks as close friends balance their lives as high school students with the intense world of competitive gymnastics.
This is one of the most hard hitting realistic shows among the newer ABC Family original series. There is so much more to this drama than watching the main four Olympic hopefuls prepare for Nationals. Make It Or Break It has fairly complex storytelling as friendships are tested and sabotaged, families are struggling to be happy together and to financially stay on top, everyone buckles under the pressure to keep secrets, and wow, it really is a complicated life at The Rock! This is incredible writing that only gets better with the incredible main and supporting cast. Josie Loren is definitely the breakout star in this drama.
Best of all, Make It Or Break It showcases real gymnasts, some who are actually training for the 2012 Olympics! There is the perfect balance between drama and action and it can all be viewed in one sitting. Yes, it is that gripping. It’s quite fascinating and amusing to watch a team compete as one and also against one another. Talk about life lessons. Make It Or Break It is one of this year’s shows that you need to be watching, so make sure to tune in later this year when it returns and buy the Volume One DVD (with an extended mid-season finale episode) this Tuesday.
Bonus Features:
Making It – Series creator, Holly Sorensen, Executive Producer, Paul Stupin, cast members, Cassie Scerbo, Ayla Kell, Chelsea Hobbs, Josie Loren, and the Make It crew discuss casting, wardrobe, and training for filming. As far as casting goes, viewers will find out that Chelsea Hobbs was hired 5 days before filming began and she had intensive training for quite a few months to prepare for the role (as did the other girls). This feature was edited very well as viewers get to see footage of the girls training as well as see their stunt doubles, many of which are National Champions and Olympians. Gymnastics Coordinators Carolyn Day and Karin Silvestri-Coye as well as Stunt Coordinator, Greg Barnett discuss more in depth about the training and the use of stunt doubles as Costume Designer, Mary-Kate Killilea informs viewers about the average amount of leotards used throughout an episode. While a short feature, it was exciting to watch…though hopefully in Volume Two there will be a spotlight where viewers can actually meet and get to know more about the stunt doubles, the real stars of the show!
Deleted Scenes – There are 6 deleted scenes, The “M” Word (Episode 4) and Funny Money (Episode 8) were understandably deleted, A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words… (Episode 5) seems like it was a scene that did end up being used in a sense in another form so it seemed pointless to be included in this feature, You Go, Girl! (Episode 6) which was a great scene but the intensity and pace of the relationship between Summer and Steve would not have been the same had this been included, and lastly, Mrs. Cruz is not your BFF! (Episode 6) and What’s in the Bag? (Episode 10) which I would have loved to have seen included in their respective episodes. It boggles my mind why these were not included. This is definitely a feature worth the watch, some of these deleted scenes are slight game changers.
