Bonus Features:
10 Things I Love About 10 Things I Hate About You…10 Years Later (35:03) – Director Gil Junger and writers Kirsten Smith and Karen Lutz sit down 10 years after the release of 10 Things to tell the story about how this classic teen comedy came to be as never-before-seen behind the scenes footage, original cast interviews, deleted scenes, original screen test and personal photos from the writers’ scrap books are shown. The 10 things discussed in this feature include background on The Story, Shakespeare, The Director, The Cast, The Location, Stadium Serenade, The 10 Things Speech, The Music, and The Deleted Scenes. Smith and Lutz discuss how the title of the film came about and the two as well as Junger discuss what makes this film timeless. It is quite incredible to see the original cast interviews and these new interviews with the director and writers because it clearly shows how everyone was on the same page in every aspect of making this film the best that it could be. There is nothing more wonderful than everyone being on the same page! Which brings us to casting…viewers find out how and why each of the main and supporting cast members were brought into the film, and many interesting fun facts are learned along the way. The filming location of the film was then discussed and it was quite interesting to find out that the film was set to shoot in Los Angeles, CA but did not want to be tied to Clueless since it was so brilliant so that is how Seattle came to be the filming location…3 weeks before shooting! The next thing discussed is perhaps my favorite focus in this feature, The 10 Things speech that Julia Stiles reads, which was shot in one take. Talk about talent. Enough said. Lastly, there is a focus on deleted scenes though it is not mentioned just how many deleted scenes there were in all. There were 2 scenes shown that were quite comedic involving Junger which were cut for time, but it’s nice to reflect back on it here in the feature. Overall, what perfect things to focus on in this feature! It was arranged very well and is a fantastic inside look into the making of such a teen classic.
Commentary – This is conducted by co-writers Karen Lutz and Kirsten Smith, and stars Andrew Keegan, David Krumholtz, Larisa Oleynik and Susan May Pratt. This was the best commentary that I have ever experienced as it was not only entertaining because of the incredibly entertaining group of people viewers get to listen to but this marks a small reunion in a sense of this fascinating cast looking back on the film that became a classic…and they didn’t focus on in depth discussion about production but instead shared their memories on and off location including fun nights at the hotel room, learning how to ride a dirt bike, joy rides with a local cop, the changes made from the original script, and much more. There’s lots to learn and lots to be entertained by in this commentary. This is a commentary that 10 Things fans will absolutely love and cherish forever.
