This week, I sat down to read The Divorce Party by Laura Dave and I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to tell you all what I thought!
This novel tells the story of two women who are the narrators of the story, Gwyn, who is ending her 35-year marriage, and her future daughter-in-law, Maggie, who is realizing just how little she knows about her fiancé.
The Divorce Party is incredibly thought provoking, as it causes the reader to wonder about themselves regarding how well they know the person that they love and how much they would fight to keep that relationship together. This novel is heartwarming and yet equally heartbreaking…making it very relatable. All of the characters are well developed and flawed and realistic. It captures the emotions of complex relationships perfectly. Along the way, there is humor and even a few surprises that will make this book hard to put down! Even more brilliant, the entire story takes place in just one day and manages to stir up an array of emotions – the one most importantly is…hope.
The Divorce Party is a very smart, insightful, and moving story and is a must read for those who love good fiction. The Divorce Party includes a reader’s guide in the back of the book, which will lead towards great discussion. It will be interesting to see how this novel translates on film, as it has been picked up by Universal Studios. Only time will tell.
The Divorce Party is available in Hardcover and Paperback now.
