If you watched Ellen DeGeneres last season then you have heard of Joshua Radin, as he performed at her wedding and performed on her show! He also has the lead song in the new Fox Searchlight hit, “Adam” and has had his music appear on many hit television shows including “Scrubs,” “Bones,” “House,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “One Tree Hill.”
Right now, Joshua is on an international tour which began on September 9th in Norfolk, VA (Tour dates below). Joshua is touring in support of his new album, Simple Times, which hit No. 1 on both iTunes’ Top Album and Alternative charts within 48 hours of its release. The music video for the lead single “I’d Rather Be With You” is incredible and was directed by Zach Braff (“Scrubs,” “Garden State”), a college friend of Radin’s.
Simple Times is the follow-up to Joshua’s 2006 debut, We Were Here. It features guest appearances by Patty Griffin and Meiko and deserves a spot in your CD collection, so get it now!
Mini Interview with Joshua Radin:
What country are you looking forward to visiting the most?
Italy! It will be my first time going there.
Do you find the energy level to vary in different US cities?
New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles definitely always have a special energy, those being the big cities.
What are your favorite venues to play in LA & NY?
I think I haven’t played in enough venues but I would say Henry Fonda Theatre in LA and Webster Hall in NY. They are both beautiful venues.
Can we expect any Twitpics while on tour?
I will actually be posting a lot of photos on Facebook, so check it out.
What was it like hearing your music on Scrubs?
It was cool! I like it because it brings the song out to more people, it is great exposure. It is really amazing to have my songs on so many different TV shows.
When did you write Brand New Day?
I remember just waking up in my house one day and it was just a beautiful day in Los Angeles. The sun was pouring in through my window and I was looking out at the beautiful view. I was going through a bad breakup and that was the first day I woke up and knew that it was finally going to be okay.
Where do you go to get inspired the most when you want to write?
I usually write all of my lyrics at coffee shops.
What was the most challenging song to write or record?
To write, “You Got Growin Up To Do” because while all of my songs are personal, this one took its toll in the writing process. The most challenging to record was “We Are Okay.”
What would you say is the most important aspect of being a songwriter?
For me, being honest. I write my best songs when I am brutally honest with myself.
