Spotlight: Jonathan Groff

The film, Taking Woodstock releases in theaters on August 28, 2009 and I am especially excited to see the film because Jonathan Groff makes his film debut!

Pennsylvanian native and 2007 Tony Award nominee (Best Actor for Spring Awakening), Jonathan Groff will be all the buzz everything once Taking Woodstock releases. He is already all the buzz in the Broadway community and after seeing him in Spring Awakening in 2007…I can see why. Jonathan originated the role of Melchior in Spring Awakening and fantastic is an understatement.

After Spring Awakening, he took on the role of Claude Hooper Bukowski in Hair, as part of the annual “Shakespeare in the Park” summer series. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about his run with Hair. Jonathan’s other stage work includes the Broadway musical In My Life, Prayer for My Enemy (Off-Broadway), The Singing Forest (Off-Broadway), and regional tours of The Sound of Music, Fame, Bat Boy, and Honk!. You may have also seen Jonathan in his 2007 recurring role on One Life to Live or in Ryan Murphy’s pilot Pretty/Handsome.

He is definitely one to watch, so make sure you see Jonathan in Taking Woodstock this weekend and plan to see him on stage in the future if you haven’t yet!
