On Friday, July 24, 2009 I attended the majority of panels in Ballroom 20.
The first panel in Ballroom 20 was for Stargate Universe and I have never seriously watched Stargate so I didn’t know what to expect exactly. Not only does it look interesting but David Blue is part of the cast, so I am sold. The difference between the first 2 Stargate series and this one is that in this one the characters are not people you would think would be on the show. So, that makes it more relatable I think and I can’t wait to watch it.
The next panel was dedicated to Caprica/Battlestar Galactica and although I have never been devoted to BSG, you do not have to have previously seen BSG to enjoy Caprica so that is good. That’s all I needed to know because I do want to watch Caprica. Caprica will debut on Friday, January 22, 2010. Jane Espenson mentioned that she brought a lot of dark humor to Caprica so I am even more excited!
Finally, the panel that I had been waiting for began! The Big Bang Theory cast, and executive producers Chuck Lorre (Two and a Half Men) and Bill Prady (Dharma & Greg), held a very entertaining Q&A! The reason I finally started watching this show regularly was because I was so entertained with the cast at Comic Con last year, so it was great to see the cast this time as a hardcore fan of the show.
Next, the panel for 24 began and I was all too excited to see the 3 new characters attend the panel as well… Freddie Prinze Jr, Katee Sackhoff, and Anil Kapoor. It was exciting to see a trailer of the new season with the new characters and a scene from the new season with Kiefer Sutherland.
Then, the panel for Bones began with a sad note – David Boreanaz was not going to be on the panel after all. He was back in LA with his wife who is due to give birth any minute. Although Emily Deschanel did appear and she is hilarious. I did not know she was so incredibly funny! The next season of Bones is set six weeks after the season finale. Cyndi Lauper will guest star in the season opener as a psychic. Lauper approached Hanson about guest starring on Bones after seeing Deschanel perform “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” earlier in the series. I recently started watching Bones reruns on TNT, so it was nice to see what was coming up in the next season. Plus, I love Cyndi Lauper, so that is even more exciting.
Next, the one and only Joss Whedon came out and treated the audience with a 2 hour panel pertaining to Dollhouse and everything Joss Whedon related. Dollhouse stars, Eliza Dushku, Dichen Lachmann, and Fran Kranz also appeared on the panel. There was much talk about where season 2 of Dollhouse is headed. Eliza and Dichen talked about what their favorite characters were to play. I do not know what my favorite of Eliza’s is but my favorite of Dichen’s is when she plays Topher’s friend. That was just great! Anyway, it was just really great to be in Joss Whedon’s presence. Not to sound creepy or anything but I look up to him so much! But before the cast of Dollhouse came out to chat with the audience, Joss Whedon screened the never-before-seen Dollhouse episode, “Epitaph One.” This episode is available on DVD and I cannot wait to get the DVD because this episode is one of my favorite Dollhouse episodes so far!
The last panel of the day for me was the TV Guide Magazine: Sci Fi Hot List where “TV Guide magazine takes an in-depth look at some of the most buzzed-about new and returning TV series.” TV Guide executive editor Craig Tomashoff moderated this panel which included Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory), Zachary Levi (Chuck), Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory), Scott Peters (executive producer, V), Rebecca Romijn (Eastwick), Kevin Williamson (executive producer, The Vampire Diaries), Scott Wolf (V), John Cho (Flash Forward), Marc Guggenheim (producer, Flash Forward), Allison DuBois (the real person behind Medium). Zachary Levi stole the show and I wish Rebecca Romijn spoke more about East wick (I didn’t get the chance to go to the Eastwick panel). Everytime Scott Wolf talked, all I heard and saw was Bailey from Party of Five. Sorry? It was incredibly amazing to see the real life Allison DuBois since I love the show, Medium. She made it clear that she does not wake up in the middle of the night and have that breath taking moment every time she has a vision. She doesn’t have sleeping problems and her visions do not only come when she is sleep. I would love to sit down and talk to Allison…I do not know if she didn’t talk as much as the others on the panel, or if I just wanted to hear more from her. Either way, it was exciting to see her and everyone else on the panel. Friday rocked!
