Nurse Jackie Pilot Review

Nurse Jackie Airs Mondays at 10:30pm EST on Showtime.

Jackie: Okay, quick question.
Zoey: Sure.
Jackie: Shut up.
Zoey: Is that a question?

I enjoyed Nurse Jackie and I look forward to more episodes. As for the pilot…the first laugh came when Jackie signed the back of a license of a dead patient and told the family that he was an organ donor. I felt guilty for laughing but that was funny. The second laugh came when Jackie was telling off Dr. Cooper and he touched her chest and then came up with this crazy excuse as to why he did so. Let’s see how long Jackie puts up with him. Also, when Jackie flushed the patient’s ear down the toilet, I couldn’t stop laughing. Oh, and the ending when she slashes a biker rider’s tire after he doesn’t take her advice was just hilarious. Again, I felt a bit guilty for laughing but Jackie is just unstoppable. She will do what she wants in a heartbeat.

What I love about her is that part of her doing what she wants is being compassionate for not only her patients but the people around her (even if she doesn’t act like it towards the people around her all of the time). She has a heart…which is probably why she is staying with her husband instead of breaking his heart and leaving him for her co-worker. At least for now. We’ll see. She has a lot of personal issues, family issues, work issues, just issues. So it will be interesting to see how she deals. Hopefully her taking meds in her coffee is not the only solution. That would be boring.

Which brings me to the only problem that I have with Jackie, which is that she is addicted to meds. That is going to get old really fast, especially since I’m already watching a show with a doctor addicted to painkillers (House). Anyway, I love the characters Zoey and Mohammed the most out of the supporting cast. This show has the potential to be very compelling. There were moments in this episodes where I saw sparks, just moments that could open the floodgates, bring so many different amazing story lines. So I hope that the comedy and the sex don’t take away screen time from getting to the storytelling, the heart of the show. Now there are way too many medical dramas on television, so I do not know how dedicated I will be to this one. On the other hand, it is very much a dark comedy, so the comedy could keep me coming back. I will keep watching. The show has already been renewed for Season 2 so this show has definitely come on with a great start!
