Catching Up With Dawn Richard

For those of you who are Danity Kane fans, I recently got to interview one of the singers who was in the group. I wanted to know what Dawn Richard was up to life after the group, so we had a chat about her comic book and more. Check it out.

Have you ever been to Comic Con in San Diego or NY?
No, I haven’t but we are trying to set up a booth for next year in San Diego. The second issue of the comic book should be out in December so definitely next year I will be there.

What are some of your favorite comics or who are your favorite comic writers and illustrators?
Full Metal Alchemist is great! I used to love Pink Girl, that was a great comic. I love Manga too. I love Courtney Love. I am excited about a few different comic books coming out too.

Do you have a favorite comic book that has been translated to the big screen?
I was really happy with Spirit. I would love to work with Frank Miller!

Is there a release date for the Danity Kane Comics Soundtrack and is that going to be released independently or under Bad Boy?
It will be coming out independently. We will release it with the comic coming out in December and it will have more songs then what people have heard already.

What was your favorite part about working on Last Train to Paris?
The whole process was great. The music, the vision, the videos, everything!

When it comes to collaborating other artists, are you open to genres outside of R&B?
It doesn’t matter to me…I love a good writer and a good sound. The artists that I have known and artists like Polly Scattergood and Peaches, they may be in one genre of music but their talent is bigger than that so I would love to be part of any record. I love when people get out of their box.

Of all of the style icons out there, who’s style would you love to take the most?
I love how Zoë Kravitz, Mary Kate Olsen, and Kate Moss present themselves when it comes to fashion.

Are you going to be involved in any way with the next Making the Band Season whether as a coach for the new girl group or somehow involved with that?
Dirty Money is a part of the process of making Diddy’s new band so we will be making appearances her and there. You will see us in the studio, so yes we are part of making his band.

What else are you working on?
You can expect the solo album next year. I want to get into fashion but I will start small with a line of scarves or shoes or something along those lines. I just shot a movie about a month ago in LA that will release in 2010 called Perfect Combination, a romantic comedy and it’s with Christian Keyes and Debra Wilson. Other than that, I am working on my music and the comic book.

What was it like working with Debra Wilson from Mad TV?
It was so fun! She said I was a great improv actress so I was excited about that. I enjoyed it so much, it was so much fun!
