For all of you Ugly Betty fans, have I got a treat for you! I was given the opportunity to talk with Mark Indelicato recently about all things Betty, all things Broadway, and of course more about Mark, himself. It was a pleasure talking to Mark and I am just so thrilled that I am finally sharing the interview with you all. Enjoy!
This interview was taken on February 28, 2009.
Can you tell us where you character, Justin on Ugly Betty is going in the future?
There is nothing really right now in the show where Justin is changing that much. He is staying the same, being in the house, talking to Betty and just being there. But hopefully towards the end of the season we’ll get to see some changes in his characters.
In what ways are you alike and not alike your character?
I am like my character in a sense that we both like to look good. I like Broadway and so does Justin but I don’t know if I would call myself fashion obsessed. Whenever you hear Justin Suarez, it is like Betty’s fashion obsessed nephew. I don’t think I am fashion obsessed so that is the biggest difference.
Can we expect to hear you singing more on the show in the future?
Yes. I am actually singing in an upcoming episode, it is really funny. It is part of a really funny storyline, it’s great.
Do you have update on your singing career?
No, not really. It has been crazy with work and school and just having to be available all of the time. I am trying to fit in the music as much as I can without damaging my work life on Ugly Betty.
What is your favorite musical?
Either Wicked or Billy Elliot. It is hard to choose between those two.
What is the last show you have seen?
Billy Elliot. It is such a great musical.
What musicals are you looking forward to seeing?
I am actually going to see Guys and Dolls tomorrow night, so I am really excited about that. I am also really excited about West Side Story of course. Hair is coming back too!
Since Hairspray has closed, what would be your dream role on Broadway until there is a Hairspray revival?
My dream Broadway role other than in Hairspray…hmm…I don’t know, I have never really thought about it.
Other than going to Broadway shows, what are your favorite things to do or favorite place to go in NY?
I really love just having the independence, going out in the city with my friends, and being able to hang out without having a car. It is so nice just to be more independent. I love it.
When the show was still filming in LA, what were your favorite things to do there?
I really didn’t have much of a social life in LA. I really didn’t do as much because you really had to make a lot of plans in LA. It is not like in NY where you can just go out, you know what I mean?
