Introducing: Jessica Harmon

Not too long ago, I talked with Jessica Harmon who has most recently been seen in Battlestar Galactica: The Face of the Enemy webisodes. She is also in 3 upcoming movies, Resistance with Shannen Doherty, Trust with Jamie Luner, and Fear Island with Lucy Hale. If that is not enough to get you excited, keep reading.

Most recently, you appeared on Kyle XY. Do you watch the show regularly?
No, I had actually seen the show 2 or 3 times before I shot it. During the process of filming, I had lunch everyday with one of the producers who gave me the breakdown on what was going on. It’s a good show.

What was your favorite episode of the Battlestar Galactica: The Face of the Enemy webisodes you were part of?
We kind of shot the whole thing around the same time, just out of order. We shot the webisodes right when the most current movie was being shot. The series had already wrapped at that point and we were using some of the same crew members from the movie. My favorite part though would have to be when I got to use the gun. That was the most fun and the most difficult.

There was a film in 2006, Black Christmas. When and where was Black Christmas shot?
That was shot in February and March 2006 in Vancouver. That was a really fun shoot. The crew was amazing!

What was it like being filming with all of those females (Katie Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lacey Chabert, etc…) in Black Christmas?
Overwhelming. That is a lot of women to have on one film set. It definitely created an interesting dynamic. It was interesting. I think I spent the most time with Michelle. Every morning we would have to get prosthetics done for 4 hours and then spend pretty much the whole day dead. She was incredibly funny.

Was it really scary or more fun shooting Black Christmas?
It was definitely a mixture of both. It was a really great crew. I had worked with some of them before. That was one of the first horror films I had done. I wasn’t expecting it to be as scary as it was. I remember filming the scene where I was coming into the attic and I had to lift open the door.

Once in the attic, I had to walk towards the camera but the whole time I could see the killer from the corner of my eye, standing there with a plastic bag. Once I hit my mark, I would say my line, wait a moment, and then he would put a bag over my head. Since I could see him it was weird, I was kind of waiting for it to happen. Even though I could see the whole crew, it was surprising how scary it was for me. I was frightened a bit but it was really fun.

Out of all of your TV and film credits, which has been the most challenging?

I filmed a movie last year that hasn‘t come out yet. Originally it was called Deep Cove but now I believe it is called Fear Island. It is a thriller. That was probably the most fun that I have ever had on a film set too. It was a really small cast. It was about a 2 month shoot. We had a great time doing a lot of stuff outside of filming too. When filming, the script changed so often. We went though 3 different killers by the time the movie was finished. It was long days and a lot of night work. I was also in a bathing suit a lot and it we shot in Vancouver when it wasn’t the warmest. That was probably the most physically and mentally demanding movie. The film is in post production now.

What is your favorite genre in TV and films to act in or watch?

I love vampire and zombie movies. I love Sci Fi too.

If you weren’t acting, what would you be doing now?
I’ve always wanted to do everything so that’s how I got into acting because I never really knew what I wanted to be. I wanted to do everything so acting was the best way to go. I can’t really see myself doing anything else. I would probably be struggling trying to act, lingering around film sets (laughs).

Having traveled across the country from a young age with your family, where is your favorite place to visit?
I really love Upstate NY. We spent a lot of time there when I was younger and I haven’t been back in many years. Anywhere in NY is great. I love Europe too.

What are your current projects?
I have 2 Lifetime movies, Trust and Resistance. My dad, Allan Harmon directed Trust, so that was really fun. Neill Fernley (Resistance) was one of the first directors that I ever worked with on The Outer Limits.

Do you go back and forth between Los Angeles, CA and Canada?
I lived in LA for about 3 years and I moved back to Vancouver 2 years ago. I have been back to LA a few times for premieres and work but I really love living in Vancouver. I don’t know if I would ever live in LA again.

What are your favorite things to do in Vancouver?

I love snowboarding. I do a lot of yoga. I like hanging out with my friends and I go to the movies about 2-3 movies a week. I love movies!
